Ugh! Have we been through it! Friday, I was, of all the things, visiting a friend and discovered a louse on my daughter!!!!! She was amazingly gracious, and being a nurse, was nonplussed by the whole thing. I, on the other hand, freaked out all the way home! (After stopping at a drugstore and buying their entire supply of lice shampoo!) Having had no previous experience with these parasites, I had to rely heavily on information my nurse friend researched on the internet. Thank God for the internet!!!!! And my very dear friend!!!!
Well, after treatment of all of our heads, my very kind and gracious husband sent us to a hotel, where we quickly treated a second time. He then proceeded to launder all sheets, dirty clothes and bag all stuffed animals, pillows, etc. Another friend lent us an ozone machine (and please don't tell me about how environmentally unsafe it is... if it is! I don't care!), which my dear husband used to clean all rooms of our house. He had very little sleep as he practically lived at the laundromat for the weekend. He is most definitely my hero!!!!!
The girls have also done so well. They have endured a neurotic mother's nitpicking... literally! Almost every time I walk by, I'd say, "Let me see your head!" I have searched, re-searched and screamed, "Don't touch that!" so many times.
I am a very blessed woman. God has given me such treasures in my husband and children (and my dear friends!) And you know what? Even those nasty little lice have been a blessing! No, I am not keeping them as pets! But, in this crisis, I have had many opportunities to trust God. Some I have failed, but by God's grace some I have passed. I have been reading a book one of my pastors recommended called Be Anxious for Nothing by John MacArthur. Do you think the Lord has used this trial to help me apply these truths in this much needed area???? I surely hope so!
I can so relate though it was pinworms at my house .... The horror ... the obsessing, the anxiety. And the ... what will people think??
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny (not really) how a tiny little creature can cause such chaos, fear, anxiety, embarrassment, and fatigue! Not to mention a cleaner house!
ReplyDeleteOh, Pammy. Yuck. yuckyuckyuck.
ReplyDeleteThank God for Rick! I've never had to deal with them, I'm grateful. Did you get the urge to shave the girl's heads? Bleah.
God is kind in giving us pharmaceuticals.
I wanted to shave all of our heads!!!! I have already told the girls they ARE getting haircuts!
ReplyDeleteVery grateful for Nix! If you ever do get them (and I hope you never do!) that is the brand to use. My nurse friend researched it and NIH says it is far more successful. That is why I treated twice. The first time I did not get Nix. The second time we used it. We also used Cetaphil for a 8 hours with our heads wrappedd in Saran wrap. I really think that was the best and final nit removal technique. Cutting them out helped too. I am praying we are lice free. "I see nothing..." (as Shultz would say).
